Reformation and Revival
D Joshua
There is always a wide spread interest for revival in Church. Only a revival can solve the decaying process that we find in Church and society. One of the best definitions of revival is Renewal of first love resulting in large scale conversion of souls. America witnessed Great Awakening during the days of Jonathan Edward in the 18th century. Charles Finney and D.L Moody were true revivalists of the 19th century in U.S.A. George Whitefield and John Wesley were used by God to bring revival in Great Britain. Ivan Roberts was instrumental for the revival in Wales in the early days of 20th century. Twentieth century was a century of technological advancement but witnessed two bloody World Wars and an unending Vietnam War. The last century saw moral and ethical breakdown. Pentecostal and Charismatic movement gave life to the slumbering bride of Christ and hope to the dying humanity.
The present century presents confusion in Christendom. Right and wrong doctrines are mixed up. True worshippers are bewildered. Even believers are looked upon as market for some of the minister’s new product of religion. There is an urgent need for prophets of God who will dare to speak the truth from falsehood and distinguish right from wrong. God chosen reformers are required to reform the Church which is under attack from inside and outside. A true revival is impossible without a genuine reformation of the World wide Church of Jesus Christ. . |
