May be you were led to make a decision
to accept Christ as your own personal Saviour while this
invitational hymn Only trust Him” was being sung.
Certainly by experience we have learned that the safest
policy for the believer is to trust Him and Him only. And
if our trust is in Him, with the Psalmist we can say “The
Lord is on my side; I will not fear what can man do to me
(118:6)?” And again as the Psalmist said:
Of whom shall I be afraid (Ps. 27:1)?
If you are in Christ, if you are following
that which is good, if you are living and walking by faith,
if you are aiming at God’s glory in all you do, then
you need not be afraid of anyone. For in Christ you are
safe from danger; while you follow that which is good, nothing
can harm you; living and walking by faith, you will overcome
every difficulty and conquer every foe; and while aiming
at His glory, He will support you, supply your every need
and will defend you. David could say, “The Lord is
my light and my salvation; the Lord isthe strength of my
life”, and therefore he fearlessly asks, “of
whom shall I be afraid?” The guilty may fear, but
you are pardoned. The friendless may fear, but God is your
friend. The defenseless may fear, but the Lord is your defence,
and theHoly One of Israel is your King. The idle may fear;
but you are employed in the Lord’s service, and He
is your co-labourer. Whom should your fear? Satan? Jesus
has defeated him and overcome the world. Death? It has been
conquered. Its sting is removed and soon it will be swallowed
up in victory. What shall I fear? Nothing! For God is my
refuge and my strength.
