God had promised Israel that He would take them into the land and give them possession of the territory that "flowed with milk and honey". He was faithful to His promise, and the record states that the Lord "gave unto Israel all the land which He swore to give to their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein" (23:43). When Joshua was dying, he reminded the Israelites that "not one thing had failed..... which the Lord your God spoke. All came to pass" (23:14) God had fulfilled his word.

I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU NOR FORSAKE YOU (1:5)

Earthly friends may fail us; and if we trust them they will fail us when we need them most. But he that puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe. God promised Joshua that He would not fail him, and He never did. He tried him, He allowed others to try him. He made him pray, He allowed him to fear. He never failed him in any struggle but gave him occasion and grace to appeal to Israel and say, "Ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing had failed, of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing had failed thereof!" What God said to Joshua, he now says to us. He will not fail us, therefore let us trust Him implicitly. He will not forsake us, therefore let us boldly say, `I will not fear. What man can do unto me? Since God will not fail, and since He will not forsake us, Let us claim this promise as Joshua did, and rejoice in His wonderful Name.
