A THEATRE
OF DEATH
Joboy M. Chacko
It is undeniable that Kerala is tragically transforming into a theatre of death, devastation and disaster. Never in the history of Kerala has taken place such an alarming increase in assassination and heinous crimes. This is not the opinion of the layman but an educated conclusion of intellectuals. Can you show a daily devoid of a bizarre incident - self-immolation or a felony? No, not at all. Dailies are fraught with news of blood curdling murders and suicides. Aren’t you flabbergasted to go over the nitty gritty behind some ghastly murders held recently? The modus operandi of murders carried out in these days has acquired monstrous dimension, no doubt. A CBI report that was published in the wake of a horrendous killing a few months back was something intriguing. The concluding remark made by the CBI in the report was thought provoking. It stated “We have conducted a meticulous survey into the entire gamut of killings that have occurred in the last l0 years in Kerala. Our study unequivocally reveals that the course of action behind murders that have taken place in the recent past are quite different from that adopted way back in 80s or the outset of 90s. The ways and means utilized in the case of recent murders is more monstrous, terrifying, and benumbing. No conscientious person on this earth can imagine the aura surrounding each crime carried out in these days. A chain of events are linked to each crime. A horde of young frustrated goons indulge in each murder leaving behind bruised images and unanswered questions. What our land has been witnessing in the last few months is nothing but blood chilling carnage. Is there no end in sight to this churning of animus? Politicians who claim to be the father figures of our destiny keep their fingers crossed before this question. Here it is worth mentioning that in some gory incidents the fence itself is eating the crop. Authorities who are supposed to desist people from diabolic acts have degenerated into assassins for satiating their petty ends. How unabashedly did a police officer commit a crime quite recently an incident that set the newspapers sizzling for a fortnight.
Satan is rampantly utilizing many young men in these days as tools for fulfilling his purposes. Sin is rearing its ugly head in myriad forms in our society. It takes the form of adultery, assassination, annihilation, deception and other horrendous acts. It seems as if the conscience of man is frozen so as to resort to any act of barbarity for fulfilling his ends. If he had been a bit conscientious, he would not have sexually tortured a child who saw the light of the earth only two years back, he would not have thrown his illegal offspring into the bush to avert social stigma, he would not have strangulated to death his life partner spurred by a momentary impulse. There is little exaggeration in stating that man is metamorphosing into a two-legged beast indulging in horrendous acts with impunity.
We, the children of God are not supposed to remain passive spectators to this sorry state of affairs. Time is ripe for us to swing into action. We have a pivotal role to play in winning this society for Christ. The destiny of this degenerating society is in the hands of we the servants of Christ. If we do not strike the right chord the society will by all means leap into an abyss. We will be partially held responsible for this deterioration on the day of judgment. We shall shoulder the awesome responsibility of propagating the word of God and win many souls for Christ in the days to come |
